It was a pleasure to take part in some of the planning and curation process for Oakland Museum of California's recent Hip-Hop exhibit. The exhibit features a plethora of dynamic experiences for museum goers of all ages - from history, to style, to all of the elements that make Hip-Hop culture infectious. Check out this video that features the story of my rap name. The show runs until August 12, 2018.
My next show!!!
PLEASE JOIN US IN CELEBRATION OF BLACK WOMEN & GIRLS!
Contagious Spirit is an interdisciplinary showcase that uses music, photography and film to honor Black women and girls’ courageous and contagious spirit of resistance.
The show will feature a custom song-collaboration by FR333 and ASTU as well as an accompanying music video by Pablo Circa. There will also be photography and youth performances.
The ultimate goal of this project is to shift the focus from vilifying Black women and girls towards honoring, uplifting and celebrating their courageous spirits—spirits that inspire us all!
This event is FREE and ALL AGES!
"Although the experiences of girls like Cyntonia Brown have drawn widespread attention to the unique challenges Black girls face, our society is merely scratching the surface. And though activists like Tarana Burke and the #MeToo movement she sparked are gaining visibility, even gracing the pages of Time Magazine (albeit not the cover), we must continue to face the music. Not only do Black women and girls face disproportionate rates of sexual assault, harassment and abuse, but our society routinely punishes Black girls for responding to the harm they survive."
I'm pleased to present a brand new collaboration I've got in the works called FR333! My homegirl XOA and I are currently putting the finishing touches on our album as well as an equally entertaining EP. What do we sound like? You be the judge. Here's a short clip from our first show as a band at The Brujas You Couldn't Kill on November 19th.
